  • Experiencing God critique response

    • The critique offers that the only way God speaks to Christians today is the Bible. I find this very difficult to swallow. My experience says that God’s voice can be heard, if our relationship is right with Him. Plus, how can any person have the gall to put a limit on God’s power or will? The critique offers a couple of passages:

The Bible is the “more sure” Word that we are to trust (2 Peter 1:19). It alone is the inspired Word of God that equips the Christian for “every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

I have no issue with those statements, but they could be completely true and still allow for other forms of communication between God and Christians. The Bible may simply be our only infallible form of His Word.

    • The critique hammers on the principles taught in the book as mystical – that the Bible is the only way God speaks. Blackaby doesn’t discount the Bible, though. What I have taken from his book is not to act on what you think is direction from God if it doesn’t coincide with Biblical truths and teaching.
    • The critique draws inferences that since Blackaby states that God spoke to early church leaders, and he also speaks to us today, that he means that it’s a causative relationship. Blackaby doesn’t write it in a causative style.
    • Later arguments show some validity (that Jesus had to make adjustments in His life – I’m not sure that’s true).
    • I like a quote from the critique:

Christians can “experience God” every moment of their lives as they serve Him, pray, and walk in humble obedience to the Word of God.
