Last night was a rough night. One of my clients has recently hired a social media marketing company to drive better market presence, and their intent was clearly on squeezing me out of the picture because they wanted the website management business as well. The company’s founder was completely disrespectful in all of her dealings with me, and unfortunately my client’s leadership and management is clearly lacking. In the end, I was struggling with whether to cut the client loose, which is hard for me to accept.

In struggling through the topic with [my wife], I closed my eyes for a minute and said a silent prayer for guidance and support. The answer back was:

    Pray with your wife.

I didn’t want to. For some reason, praying has never been something that we’ve done together. I didn’t want to heed that call, and resisted it for a couple minutes in prayer. Then He said:

    This could change everything.

What I got from that is that this was a critical step of obedience, and if I did not heed the call, His guidance and blessing on my life could change. At first it felt like I was battling with obeying the call, but eventually I simply submitted to it. I was going to originally say that I fought through the fear, but that’s not accurate. When I actually asked her if she’d pray with me about it, there was no fear.

I did all the praying, and it was a quick one, asking for guidance, His hand on the situation, and His wisdom in speaking with my client to work on a resolution. But afterwards, [my wife] and I had a wonderful conversation about prayer. I asked whether she believed in prayer and whether she believed that God speaks to us through prayer. It turns out, she feels quite similarly to me – it took this situation to reveal that!

It’s amazing to me how God works. I get the feeling often that I go through significant portions of my life in preparation for a single lesson. For example, I get the feeling that my whole experience with this client was to get me to the point of breaking so that I would turn to God, He would ask me to pray with [my wife] and He would bless our relationship through it.

Lord, I pray that my obedience is rewarded with your blessing. Thank you for being there when I called out to you. Thank you for your hand in my life. Thank you for your work in bringing [my wife] and I closer together. I love you Lord.

Reading this back, I can see that He has already blessed me through my obedience.

    Thank you, Lord.
