  • Transformed Conference

    • First premise of the conference was: measure what we say against the word of God
    • Love for others necessitates a deep desire to share your faith. If you don’t love others, then you don’t know God.
    • True courage is when you conquer fear, not that fear is absent
    • Weakness becomes strength, through prayer

    Three keys:

    • The first key is FAITH
      • Romans 15:13
      • Faith produces joy, which produces physical energy (FIRE)
      • No faith, no joy (no fire)
    • The second key is LOVE
      • Perfect love casts out all fear
      • God if you did that for me, I will do anything for you
    • The third key is … (didn’t catch it)
      • Analogy of children playing at the bottom of an elevator shaft
        • Person running over to save them, stopping, and saying to themselves “they’re happy, I’ll leave them alone” or “I don’t know them”
    • Jesus came to make us righteous, not happy.  You can be happy without Jesus
    • Relations are the hardest people to witness to
    • Would you evangelize more if you were offered $1,000 per person?
      • This puts fear in perspective
      • Can you deal with your fear of men for the love of money, but not for the love of God?
    • More Than a Carpenter
    • You have to come to God on His terms.  Invite Him to reveal Himself to you – with a humble heart
    • Repentance is far more than a change of mind.  It is a change of heart and a change of will
    • It’s not about perfection, it’s about focus and direction

Five reasons to not ask Jesus into your heart:

    1. It’s not in the Bible
    2. It leaves out the gospel message to repent
    3. It leaves out the gospel message to believe in Jesus
    4. It presents Jesus as a beggar, as if we are in control
    5. The result is people who cry out “Lord, Lord”, and Jesus responds that He never knew them

10 things not to use in evangelizing:

    1. Hell fire preaching
      • Don’t want a fear response.  Want a response to grace. (tear-filled, not fear-filled)
    2. Just believe
      • It’s not enough to believe, you must repent
    3. Accept Jesus
      • Jesus accepts us, not the other way around.  We need to be accepted by Him
    4. God shaped hole in your heart
      • It’s sin-stained
    5. Jesus plus _______
      • “You’ll get all these things if you just become a Christian”
      • This focuses on the gifts, not the giver
    6. Fruit as a draw card
      • “Jesus will fix your marriage if you would just become a Christian”
    7. Decisional Regeneration
      • Deciding to be Christian doesn’t make you one
      • The decision + repentance
    8. Make Jesus your Lord and Savior
      • He already is Lord and Savior
      • You don’t grant Him status
    9. Commit to Jesus
      • Surrender, not commitment
    10. It’s easy to believe
      • Surrendering your pride is not easy
    • Saved people grow based on the gospel, nothing else
    • You don’t need or are even looking for a decision when evangelizing.  You are planting the seed of the gospel.
    • Law to the proud.  Grace to the humble.
    • Heart still tied to the “dock” of the world
    • Getting past / through your fear is a matter of getting past your pride.

    Boyhood

    • Living in a world made safe by your father
    • Craving of belovedness
      • Adoration, attention
      • Trials feel like abandonment when this is not present
    • A passive father wounds just as much as an abusive one
    • Childhood until about 12

    Cowboy

    • Adventure
    • 13-19
    • “Do I have what it takes?”
    • Take it to the next level
    • Being a shepherd was dangerous work
    • The need is for words of admiration and experiences for discovering he has what it takes
    • Failure at this stage results in avoiding risk – sticking to what you think you’re good at
      • Not trying something new
      • Failing without proper interpretation

    Warrior

    • 19-twenties
    • Wants to be powerful
    • Every man is given a warrior heart
      • Adam fell through passivity.  Passivity must be overcome
      • We are born into a world of war (spiritual).  The battle infects everything.
      • The Lord is a warrior (Ex 3:16?)
    • Suppression is an enemy
    • Defeat can shut this down if proper interpretation isn’t available
    • You have an enemy – you must deal with him – he’ll take anything you’ll give him

    Lover

    • Same timing as warrior
    • Most men hide in logic, reason, analysis
    • This stage is the awakening of the heart
    • Painful experience needs healing

    King

    • Late 30’s > early 50’s
    • The measure of a king is the description of what it like to be under his rule
    • Test of character is extraordinary
      • Pressures have never been greater
    • Wounded by giving responsibility too early

    Sage

    • Culmination of the journey
    • There’s a time to step down
    • Looks like his world is shrinking, but influence ought to be at its greatest
    • Father to kings
    • Counselor of warriors and lovers
    • Wounded by being dismissed
    • Inner life is greater than outer life
    • Ask for a sage’s wisdom

    Additional Notes

    • God presents himself as Father
    • Orphan consciousness
      • People (even Christians) live their lives mostly thinking they need to solve their own problems
      • What would an adoring father do?
    • Satan is always there to offer his interpretation of your experience
    • People make agreements with Satan
    • People make agreements that “it is all on me” (orphan mentality), or “it’s just the way it is”
    • Start by breaking the agreement
    • Renounce the lie the “it’s all on me”
    • God will put you in situations where you’ll experience fatherless to flush the would / agreement out of you (healing)
    • God is available as my father
    • He flushes things to the point where he can minister to you
    • Agreements;
      • I will always be like that
      • It’s just who I am
    • Don’t make agreements that make it more difficult to reconcile / heal later
    • Win the child’s heart for God
  • Strategic Perspectives conference notes
