  • The Rock San Diego – 5/25/08 Sermon

    • God is speaking to you every single day, all day
    • Judges lasted from Joshua’s death to Sol become king
    • God will show you exactly what you need to know at any given time
    • God speaks to you through
      • His Word
      • Circumstance
      • His Creation – Redwood forest experience, birds sing without knowing where they’re going to eat next, the human body
        • Telomere
    • God will never yell at you – He will whisper to you (speaks in a ‘small, still voice’)
      • You’ll think it’s you, whispering to yourself
      • It will always agree with the Bible
      • ‘Speak Lord.  Your servant hears.’
    • Prayer is focused time with the Lord
    • God sometimes uses pain to test to see how much we trust Him
      • He has the big picture
      • How much persistence do you have?
    • Notes:
    1. You must prepare with expectation to hear the voice of God
    • Go to your place
    • Gather what you need (Bible, paper and pencil)
    1. You must respond to His voice immediately
    • The steering wheel turns easier when the car is moving
    • He can’t steer you if you’re not moving!
    • The least you can do is write down what He’s saying
    • Pray with paper and pen – record what He tells you or you’ll forget it
    • He wants to provide you with counsel and wisdom
    • If you don’t obey, His plan for you may be on hold
    1. Respond consistently
    • God wants to know that if He tells you to jump, you’ll jump
    • Be reliable to God – He wants consistency
    • If He can entrust you with the little things, He can entrust you with the bigger things
    • It’s all about just obeying / doing the little things
    • He may choose to say ‘I said it once, and that’s it – you heard me’
    1. Respond persistently
    • Have to respond and persistently do the right thing even when it doesn’t feel good or hurts
    • God will allow an obstacle of obedience to enter your life and say ‘what are you going to do’
    • The devil has us thinking that as long as the worst didn’t happen, everything is ‘ok’
    1. Respond as a humble servant
    • We all have something(s) we don’t want to let go of (regardless if the thing(s) are sins)
    • Tell God that you want to hear Him
    • ‘I want to hear you.  And I want to do what you want me to do.  I want to be what you want me to be.  I have a pen, and I’m ready to listen.’ – you will hear Him
    • Don’t check your brain at the door – He’s not going to ask you to do things that don’t fit with who He designed you to be
    • God says – call on me and I will show you great and mighty things which you do not know
    • Seven day challenge
    1. Read Proverbs – they are suggestions of wisdom – and ask God to grant you wisdom through each chapter (pen and paper ready), and write down one thing that He tells you that is wise (each chapter).  Get accustomed to doing what He says
    2. Wisdom is the proper use of knowledge
    3. Wisdom will save your life
  • Bahnsen / Stein Debate (YouTube) – Christianity vs. Atheism

    • Stein – Atheism doesn’t state that there is no God.  It states that the theist argument is lacking.  Unproven, not disproven.
    • My response is that the evidence of God’s existence is perfect and beautiful in that it requires the acceptance and open heart in order to even understand the evidence (the Bible)
